In the Fulton County School System, we conducted a comprehensive materials review and alignment for K–5 English/language arts and a full instructional audit for K–8 mathematics. Fulton County requested this audit as it was implementing Georgia’s recently adopted Performance Standards, meaning the district had purchased and implemented some new curriculum programs and would be purchasing additional programs and materials.
Our auditing process included community and school round table groups,
lesson-by-lesson mapping of all instructional materials to Georgia’s standards,
and classroom observations. Fulton County learned about the degree of match
between their core and supplemental materials and the extent to which teachers
were using recently purchased materials in the classroom.
