Mary Doran Brown

As a Montgomery County Public School, Ed., elementary teacher, Mary Doran Brown has developed curriculum, devised and monitored School Improvement Plans in low-performing schools and presented on several educational topics to professional groups. She is currently a Title I gifted and talented resource teacher teaching middle school math to elementary students. She also coaches colleagues on differentiating instruction to meet the learning needs of both highly able and struggling students. In January of this year, she met with President bush to discuss current education initiatives.  She was one of the originators of a countywide Science Student Inquiry Conference and has coached students to initiate their own testable questions, to plan and implement well-designed investigations and to present their work at the conference. She has written and piloted science curriculum guides for the district science department to bridge the instructional gaps between state learning outcomes and commercial science kits.
