Mary Richards


Mary Richards, Ed.D currently serves as CEO of Learning Effects, a web-based professional development and student performance assessment company located in Portland, Maine. LE administers performance items and provides electronic reporting in the domains of reading, writing, mathematics, and science. Mary supervises and delivers the most unique dimension of the LE offering, face-to-face teacher scoring training. At the conclusion of training teachers have the opportunity to score student work in an online environment.

Mary has had extensive experience in education at various levels from that of classroom teacher, principal, district curriculum coordinator to the director of two divisions, Certification and Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, at the State Department of Education in Maine. Additionally Mary has served as:
  • Lead designer for the writing scoring model in Maine's state testing program
  • Director of Implementation for the national New Standards Project.
  • 2000 President of New England Reading Association
  • A private professional development consultant, and
  • Adjunct Literacy faculty member at the University of Maine, Eastern Michigan University, and Leslie College
