thrive in our increasingly complex world and economy. Recognizing this, states
are revising their standards to ensure that students leave school ready for
postsecondary education, whether it is college or technical training.

Our approach to reviewing standards:
- Compares state standards to well-respected national and
international standards and assessment frameworks;
- Evaluates each grade level standard to determine its level of
rigor, specificity, measurability, and clarity; and
- Reviews the standards document as a whole to determine such things
as grade-to-grade coherence and content soundness.
